My Nan called me with news that a young Green Woodpecker had been found in the road, unable to fly. We think that it may have been hit by a car or attacked by a cat since it couldn't fly half an hour later. We took it to the vets and they're still caring for the bird. Whilst these situations are so difficult to know what the right thing to do is, we're pleased that we intervened, since the bird was so vulnerable and would have undoubtedly been attacked if we'd have left it.
I am a third-year student studying Mathematics at the University of Surrey and have always had an interest in wildlife photography. A few years ago I raised £500 for the RSPB by selling greetings cards with my photos on and won the Thomson Habitats Photography Competition.

Amwell
We had great views of three Little Ringed Plover. This was the first time that I'd seen the bird within an identifiable distance! We also saw Redshank, Oystercatcher, Stock Dove, Wigeon and a young Great-spotted Woodpecker.

We had five showings of these two stunning Kingfishers in just half an hour! I'm really happy with the in flight shots considering the speed at which the birds fly at. Lots else to see on the site as well, especially butterflies.
