Great-Spotted Woodpecker story continued...

Male Great-Spotted Woodpecker (the red mark on the back of its head makes it a male).

This bird has been visiting our garden feeders regularly for about three months now and we see it most days. There is a good chance that this is the same bird that we saw at the start of the last breeding season, which disappeared leaving the female to raise the offspring in a nest hole we located (whether she was successful we do not know). Hopefully he will still be here for spring and the female will turn up soon. I will keep you posted...
