Another early start with alarms set for 5:45 but yet another successful day on the East coast.
Highlights: Whimbrel, Greenshank, Spotted Redshank, Bearded Tit, House Martin, Sanderling, Red-Crested Pochard, Sandwich Tern, Sedge Warbler (heard only), Brent Geese, Marsh Harrier, Cetti's Warbler (heard only), Swallow, Sand Martin.
I also hand fed two Robins which was great.

ReplyDeleteI thought you may be interested to know that the picture you've labelled a redshank is actually a winter or first winter plumaged Spotted Redshank . The easiest way I identify spotted reshanks is the bill. On a redshank the base is orange on both manibills whereas on the spotted resshank it has red at the base though this is only on the lower mandabill.

Thanks for the correction - I can see that it is a Spotted Redshank now. I made the mistake of assuming all Spotted Redshanks would have reached their summer plumage.
